Standard A sizes at a glance
Every A size keeps the same proportions. Fold a sheet in half across its longest edge and you get the next size down.
Visual comparison: diagrams are proportional rather than physically life-size because screens vary.
A5 — 148 × 210 mm
Close to a small paperback. Popular for leaflets, booklets and Funeral Orders of Service.
A4 — 210 × 297 mm
The familiar office sheet, suited to letterheads, reports, menus and brochures.
A3 — 297 × 420 mm
Twice the area of A4. Common for small posters and folded presentation pieces.
A2 — 420 × 594 mm
A substantial poster size for retail, education and event displays.
A1 — 594 × 841 mm

Bleed, Trim & Safe Area
Three boundaries every artwork file should understand
Correct preparation gives the guillotine room to trim cleanly without leaving white edges or cutting important text.
Bleed
Extend photographs, colours and backgrounds 3 mm beyond every trimmed edge. A4 artwork with bleed measures 216 × 303 mm.
Trim line
The final finished edge after cutting. Tiny mechanical movement is normal, which is why bleed matters.
Safe area
Keep important text, page numbers and logos at least 4 mm inside the trim edge unless a supplied template says otherwise.
Crop marks
Crop marks indicate where to cut. Include them only when requested and keep them outside the bleed.
